The department was organized in 1967 by Professor Mnushkin Aron Solomonovich.The history of the Department of Cardiology is inextricably linked with the history of its founding in 1932. and reorganization of the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors. The basis for the organization of the department was the Department of Hospital Therapy of the Tashkent Medical Institute, headed by professors Slonim Moisei Ilyich (1932-1940), Mankus Heinrich Frantsevich (1940-1942), associate professor Gekhtman Lev Revimovich (1942-1947).

At the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2002, according to the Decree of President Islamov I.A., the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a course in “Gerontology and Geriatrics” was organized and the department was renamed into the Department of Cardiology with a course in gerontology and geriatrics.
Between 2003 and 2011. The department has developed: a postgraduate education program in the specialty "GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS" and 14 thematic improvement programs on the problems of "GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS" for doctors of all therapeutic specialties.
Since 2001, clinical residency in the specialty “Cardiology” was restored at the department. Along with teaching activities, the staff of the department are engaged in medical activities and scientific research on the problem “Clinical and pathogenetic aspects of a differentiated approach to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases in different age groups.”

From 2012 to this day, the department is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tulaboeva G.M., being a student of the academicianYuldasheva K.Yu., she worthily continues the traditions of her teacher, being an innovator of innovative trends in cardiology. On the initiative of Tulaboeva G.M. and her active participation in the educational process of the department, integrated specialization courses in interventional cardiology were introduced (864 credits - 6 months), accordingly, educational programs were developed and approved. Specialization courses are conducted jointly with employees of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Cardiology, while the department is the moderator of this course.
Considering the relevance and wide demand for the introduction of interventional and minimally invasive methods of treating cardiovascular diseases in practical cardiology in all regions, including remote regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as in order to improve the quality of continuing medical education in accordance with the order of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 20, 2021 No. 02 -042, on behalf of the Example of the Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 27, 2021 No. 07/1-2585, the department was renamed to the department of “Cardiology and Gerontology with a course of interventional cardiology and arrhythmology.”
Over the past 10 years, 3 doctoral and 8 candidate dissertations have been prepared and defended, and 5 applicants are currently conducting research work.
