Department history

On March 20, 1934, the first TipME cycle on ear, throat and nose diseases was held. On March 1, 1942, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of TipME was established, and since 1952, along with training for specialization, training of otorhinolaryngologists began. In 1944, the department began training specialists through clinical residency, and in 1957, scientific staff through postgraduate training.

Over the past period, hundreds of doctors have received training, specialization and clinical residency at the department. The department trained 5 doctors of medical sciences and 21 candidates of medical sciences. Currently, the department is conducting general and thematic training courses for doctors. Otorhinolaryngologists, audiologists, phoniatric specialists, as well as otorhinolaryngologists are being trained on the basis of specialization training programs. Training of scientific-pedagogical personnel is being carried out through basic doctoral studies and the system of independent researchers.

Practical and theoretical problems of ear diseases have been studied in depth during the whole period of the department's activity. In particular, L.T. Levin proposed improved methods of middle ear remedial surgery, and S.I. Shumsky proposed improved methods of roentgenography of temporal bones. As a continuation of this direction, in 2000, under the leadership of professor K. D. Djabbarov, A.Ch. Khushbakov's scientific work on the epidemiology of chronic otitis media and improvement of mastoidoplasty can also be cited as an example. For the first time in our republic, in 2019, independent researcher G.Yo. Yunusova under the leadership of Professor S.S. Arifov completed scientific works on otosclerosis, and in 2020, independent researcher S.S. Arifov on acute sensorineural hearing loss after acoustic injury, and they were put into practice.

In the 60s of the 20th century, the department was founded by Professor E.A. Under the leadership of Ladijinskaya, it was recognized as a leading center for autoneurology and vestibulology in the republic. In this direction, a monograph called "Mener's disease" and many scientific articles and methodological recommendations were published.

In the 1970s, among the first in the USSR, under the leadership of professor G. T. Ibragimov, T. Sh. Mamatova studied the theoretical aspects of the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of diseases of the nose and its adjacent spaces and successfully implemented it. This direction was continued under the leadership of associate professor T.Sh.Mamatova in the 90s by assistant professor E.Yakhina, and today by doctoral student E.Y. Makhamadaliev in his scientific works called the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of paranocillary abscesses.

Over the past years, the staff of the department have been studying the problems of diseases of the nose and its adjacent cavities. In particular, in the 1960s and 1970s, A.Q.Rasulova, A.M.Ashurov, under the guidance of professor G.T.Ibragimov, in the 1990s, the technical extensive scientific research was carried out to obtain a scientific degree and now, under the guidance of professor S.S. Arifov, to obtain a DSc scientific degree, in 2020, A.B. Rasulov completed his scientific work for receiving a PhD scientific degree on vasomotor rhinitis.

The department is considered one of the "pioneers" in the use of hirudotherapy in otorhinolaryngology. The results of extensive scientific research in this direction, which began in the 80s of the 20th century, under the leadership of associate professor T. Sh. Mamatova, in the 90s, assistant professor D.E. scientific work for obtaining a scientific degree, published in 2020 "Girudoterapiya v otorinolaringologii" (author Pardaev D.E.) and many scientific articles, methodological recommendations.

Over the past years, the staff of the department have been studying the problems of people and diseases of the throat. In particular, O.B. Abdurakhmonov carried out scientific research on adolescent angifibroma of the nasopharynx (scientific work performed for obtaining the DSc scientific degree), D.T. Artikova on the problem of chronic tonsillitis (scientific work performed for receiving the Ph.D. scientific degree), S.A. Khasanov carried out scientific research.

For the first time in Uzbekistan, cochlear implantation was performed in 2009 under the leadership of professor S.S. Arifov, assistant R.Z. Umarov at the "ProfMedServis" clinic, which is the clinical base of the department. endoscopic removal of tromoembolic complications has been put into practice.
