The Department of Childhood Neurology was organised in 1967 by Professor Gordon Yakov Yakovlevich on the basis of the Department of Neurology of the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians (Tashkent Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians). At the time of its organisation, the department consisted of no more than 5 people.
Professor Gordon Ya. Ya. Headed the department until September 1972, subsequently the head of the department was entrusted to his student - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Shamansurov Shamurad Sharasulovich, who worked as an assistant professor there since its organization.
For a long time, literally since the creation of the department, a highly qualified specialist, an experienced clinician Majidova Aydin Tursunovna, Davletbaeva Kadria Abdurakhmanovna, Turgunova Gulyara Lutfullaevna, and others worked.
Since 1976, the department began to train specialists in pediatric neuropathology on 3-month cycles according to a unified program (specialization), cycles of thematic improvement in cerebral palsy, epilepsy and hereditary genetic diseases in children. The first few years of the department's existence, the base was the children's hospital No. 14 in Tashkent. Subsequently, the department began to be based on the territory of the psycho-neurological hospital, which today is named after its founder - Kurbanov U.K. Subsequently, the department was relocated to the City Clinical Children's Hospital No. 1 in Tashkent.
Professor Shamansurov Sh.Sh. Sr. has been personally engaged for many years in the study of etiopathogenetic and clinical aspects of treatment of ticotic hyperkinesis in children. The team of the department headed by Professor Shamansurov Sh.Sh. Sr. for the first time described the clinical and diagnostic picture and developed treatment of one of the new forms of ticotic hyperkinesis, in which tics are accompanied by paroxysmal epileptic seizures leading to aggravation of clinical disorders. This form of the disease was called ticotic epilepsy (tic-epilepsy) and was first reported at the International Symposium in Suzdal. In addition, the department worked on the introduction of myographic methods of investigation of patients with ticotic hyperkinesis, which allowed characterising the level of pathological defect contributing to tics.
Also, one of the scientific directions of the department at that time was the problem of spinal injuries (birth) and their consequences. The relevance of this problem continues to this day.
The staff of the department also studied the pathology of the maxillofacial apparatus of children with nervous system damage, diseases of the peripheral nervous system associated with infectious and somatic pathology, EEG studies in epilepsy, the state of the ANS in epilepsy in children.
The scientific research of the department's staff is reflected in monographs, collections of works, speeches at neurological forums and numerous publications.
After the untimely death of Professor Shamansurov Shamurat Sharasulovich in 1995, his son Shamansurov Shaanvar Shamuratovich took over the head of the department, who defended his doctoral thesis in Moscow at that time and returned to his homeland to continue the work started by his father. Shamansurov Shaanvar Shamuratovich, like his father, managed to create a team capable of working together, united by a single goal – to serve his people. Together with Shamansurov Jr., in addition to young specialists, Rafikova Z.B., who began her scientific activity under Shamurad Sharasulovich, Nurmatova D.A., Gulyamova M.K., Saidazizova Sh.Kh., Ziyamukhamedova N.M. worked, who served as a reliable stronghold of the department.
