The department was organized in 1998. The founder of the department, its first head, Tursunkhodzhaev Murat Khamidovich, PhD, who run it from 1998 to 2004г.

Tursunkhodjaev M.H. was a native psychiatrist, narcologist, psychotherapist, graduated from the medical faculty of Taskent State Medical Institute in 1972. He was an author of 42 scientific papers, 5 brochures, 7 methodological recommendations.

Professor L.A. Tursunkhodzhayeva, graduated from the General Medical Faculty of Tashkent Medical Institute in 1972. She was a head of the Department from 2005 to 2023. She is an author of 150 scientific papers, 4 monographs, 31 methodological recommendations on issues of psychiatry and narcology. She has prepared 5 candidates of medical sciences.  

She was awarded the commemorative badge "Veteran of Labor" of the 1st degree for many years of effective work.

Since 2023 Sh. Bahramov, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), has  been the head of the departments.
