The department was organized in 1945.

The first head of the department was Professor D.A. Kogan from 1945 to 1955.

The course on physical therapy was taught by Ilyinsky I.P., associate professor, candidate of medical sciences. from 1947-1967

The educational base of the department was the Research Institute of Therapy and Medical Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which was headed by Professor Alyavi A.L.

Over the years, the department was headed by the following professors:

Katsenovich Rauf-Rafael Aleksandrovich, professor 1960-1971

Dalimov Ziyod Aminovich, professor, doctor of medical sciences. from 1972-1981

Yuldasheva M.Kh., associate professor, candidate of medical sciences from 1983-1999 (acting head of the department since 1981)

Arifjanov B.Kh., Doctor of Medical Sciences from 1999-2004

Khasanova Kh.D., associate professor, candidate of medical sciences from 2004-2006

Today the department is headed by a purposeful, strong-willed and professional specialist - Khamrabaeva F.I., professor, doctor of medical sciences. (from March 2006 to present)

Since December 2006, by the decision of the Academic Council of Tashkent Institute of Internal Medicine, the department began to be called “Gastroenterology and Physiotherapy”.

The main educational areas of the department: gastroenterology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, dietetics, sports medicine and physical therapy.  

The educational base of the department is the Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital at the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers.
