Department history

In 1934, the Department of "Eye Diseases" was established at the Tashkent (formerly Central Asia) Medical Training Institute.
Professors who headed the department:
– Professor Arkhangelsky Petr Fedorovich (1934-1948);
– Professor Popova Sofya Alekseevna (1948-1952);
– Docent Shkarenko Zoya Semyonovna (1952-1957);
– Professor Komilov Makhamadjon Komilovich (1957-1988);
– From 1988 to the present day, the department has been headed by Hero of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Kholidjon Makhamadjonovich Komilov.
The educational and practical base of the department was in the department of eye diseases of the Tashkent Medical Institute clinic until 1948, in the emergency medical hospital from 1948 to 1961, in 1961-1966 in the eye diseases department of Tashkent clinical hospital No. 15, from 1966 to the present day in the Republican Eye Diseases Clinic of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan located in the hospital (RKKKSh).

 

Arkhangelsky Pyotr Fedorovich

 

Honored scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, doctor of medical sciences, professor (1934-1948 head of the department).
P.F. Arkhangelsky headed the Department of Ophthalmology of the Tashkent Medical Institute in 1932, from 1934 to 1948 he headed the Department of Eye Diseases of the TVMOI. In 1917, he graduated from the medical faculty of the Warsaw Institute. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1922. Author of more than 100 scientific works. On his initiative, in 1936, an eye prosthesis center was established, and in 1940, a center for the fight against trachoma was established. He made great contributions to the study and practice of the pathogenesis and surgical treatment methods of glaucoma, to the study of intraocular pressure balancing and conditional reflex mechanisms, to the implementation of antiglaucomatosis surgical procedures (scleroiridectomy, sclerotomoiridectomy) and to the improvement of the necessary surgical equipment.
Sclerotomoiridoectomy surgery is widely used in the surgical treatment of glaucoma in eye departments of eye diseases hospitals and medical institutions in Uzbekistan.

 

Popova Sofya Alekseevna

 

Doctor of medical sciences, professor (head of the department 1948-1952). S.A. From 1948 to 1952, Popova headed the Department of Eye Diseases of TIPME, and from 1953 to 1957, the Department of Eye Diseases of the Tashkent Medical Institute. He graduated from the Petrograd Medical Institute in 1917. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1948. For many years, he worked on the problem of ocular leishmaniasis, and also made a significant contribution to the study of the effects of malaria on the organs of vision.

 

Shkarenko Zoya Semyonovna

 

Candidate of medical sciences, associate professor (1952-1957 head of the department). Z.S. From 1952 to 1957, Shkarenko was the head of the Department of Eye Diseases of TVMOI. His scientific work was on the experimental study of the morphology of brucellosis of the visual organs and the complications after sclerotomoiridectomy in the surgical treatment of glaucoma.

 

Komilov Makhamadjon Komilovich

 

Komilov M.K. - the founder of modern ophthalmology, a famous doctor outside our country, doctor of medical sciences, professor, honored scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, honored doctor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organizer of Health Protection, "Red Flag of Labor", "Red Star", "Great World War » orders, 12 medals, honorary labels and badges of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Komilov M.K. Born on March 12, 1917 in Tashkent. In 1939, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Tashkent Medical Institute and in the same year entered postgraduate studies. From the first days of the war, he participated in the military service at the Leningrad front and completed his service in the Turkestan Military District in 1946. Komilov M.K. From 1946 to the end of his life, he devoted his whole life to the Department of Ophthalmology of the Tashkent Medical Training Institute. From 1946 to 1949, he studied clinical residency at the department, from 1949 to 1957 he worked as an assistant of the department, from 1957 to 1988 he was the head of the department, from 1988 to 1991 he worked as a consultant-professor of the department.
Komilov M.K. due to his high demands on himself and others, in the years after the war, our Republic managed to restore the science and service of ophthalmology.

In 1955, he defended his dissertation at the Central Institute of Medical Education in Moscow and received the degree of candidate of medical sciences. In 1970, he defended his doctoral thesis on eye injuries and their prevention. Having worked in hospitals for a long time, he has become an experienced doctor-diagnostic and an eye surgeon who knows his work from thread to needle. He is a specialist who is well versed in surgical techniques and is capable of operating on any eye disease.
Makhamadjon Komilov has been doing pedagogical work for many years in medical training institutes located in Tashkent and Moscow, and has proved that he is an experienced pedagogue who can explain his lessons at the level of modern knowledge. He has been doing all the work entrusted to him by the public with high quality and initiative.
Based on the approach to technical aesthetics and scientific organization of work, Komilov M.K. prevention of injuries of organs of vision, classification of contusion of organs of vision was developed and put into practice in large production enterprises of Uzbekistan. Ophthalmologists of the Republic have been effectively using this classification until now.
Professor Komilov M.K. made a great contribution to the treatment of trachoma and other infectious diseases of the eye.
Professor Komilov M.K. is considered the "father" of Uzbek ophthalmology. In 1964, as a result of anti-trachoma activities organized by him, trachoma disease was eliminated in Uzbekistan. Even now, this service is organized in ophthalmological offices, departments and hospitals in every region.
As the chief ophthalmologist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he founded the scientific society of ophthalmologists of Uzbekistan in 1958 and served as its chairman until 1989. At the same time, he worked as a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Society of Ophthalmologists, as a member of the editorial board of "Uzbekistan Medical Journal".
Komilov M.K. - He is the founder of the School of Ophthalmology of Uzbekistan, whose main scientific directions are eye injuries, inflammation, vascular diseases, cataract and glaucoma.

In addition to eye injuries, Komilov and his students conducted scientific directions on the differential use of antibiotics in eye inflammatory diseases, hemodynamics and hydrodynamics were studied in eye vascular diseases and glaucoma, and new surgical procedures were developed in hypertensive conditions and cataracts.
Professor Komilov M.K. microsurgical techniques of eye surgery were developed and applied to the practice of Republican ophthalmology.
According to his strong organizational features and scientific views, Komilov M.K. based on neurology, pulmonology, therapy and other fields, formed a base of interdisciplinary scientific research.
He was the first to establish new trends in ophthalmology. He developed the fields of neuroophthalmology, ophthalmotraumatology and directed his students to these fields.
Under the guidance of the professor, more than 30 candidacy and doctoral theses were defended. All Union of Ophthalmologists V met, scientific and practical conferences were held in the Republic, and more than 10 scientific collections and methodical recommendations were published.
Komilov M.K. The author of 2 monographs, more than 130 scientific works, methodological recommendations, manuals and newsletters, which serve as a guide for ophthalmologists to this day.
His monograph on diagnostic errors in ophthalmology has been a reference for ophthalmologists for many years and has not lost its relevance to this day.
Komilov M.K. as a professional, he helped thousands of patients, and in the field of ophthalmology, he made his contribution by solving many current problems. In 1994, he received the "Courage" medal, in 1967 - "Honored doctor of the Uzbek SSR", in 1977 - "Honored scientist of the Uzbek SSR".
