In 1967, for the first time in the Institute for Advanced Medical Studies, the Department of Dentistry was founded for postgraduate education of dentists. The department was headed by Associate Professor K.S. Malikov. After that, the department was divided into the following areas: Surgical Dentistry (Associate Professor Khudayarov I.A.), Therapeutic Dentistry (Associate Professor Mamedova F.M.), and Pediatric Dentistry (Associate Professor Shamsiev H.N.).

In December 1985, the Department of Dentistry for dentists of the city of Tashkent was organized at the Tashkent Institute of Advanced Medical Studies. At that time, the department was located in the 2nd Dental Clinic. The head of the department was Assoc. Professor Gafurova Dilorom Fayozovna.

Associate Professor Gafurova D.F. played a major role in organizing the department of therapeutic dentistry, as well as in teaching the use of physiotherapy in dentistry. From 1987-2009, the head of the department was Associate Professor Khudoiberdiev Gayrat Igamberdievich. He played a major role in organizing the bases and equipping them with modern equipment. 

Under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Khudoiberdiev G.I., the Department of Dentistry 1 was organized to improve the skills of dentists in the areas of trapeutic and orthopedic dentistry.

By order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 62 dated January 25, 1989, in order to improve the training and postgraduate education of dentists in the city of Tashkent and the Tashkent region, the 1st Dental Clinic of the Mirzo-Ulugbek District and the 5th Dental Clinic of the Yunusabad District were approved as the bases of the department. From 2009 to 2022, the department was headed by Professor Alimov Alisher Sadikovich.

During these years, qualified teachers and clinicians worked with the head of the department such as: prof. Zhumatov U.Zh., Assoc. Prof. Muminova G.G., assistants: PhD Bekmetov Z.M., Mirzabaeva S.S., Shamsiev F.Kh., Atakhanova Sh.Sh., Osipova I.I., Fattakhov Sh.U., Abduyusupova K.M., Azizov A.M.

From 2022 to the present, the head of the department is MD, prof. Khaidarov A.M.

Under his leadership, the department conducts cycles of general and thematic improvement in general dentistry, therapeutic dentistry, orthopedic dentistry, as well as cycles of renewal and specialization in general, therapeutic, orthopedic dentistry and implantology. Also, clinical residents study, improve and develop professional skills at the department.

They are assisted in this by highly qualified teachers such as: Assoc. Prof. Aliyeva Muattar Abdulkhaevna, assistants: Shamsiev Fakhriddin Khamidullaevich, Abduyusupova Kamola Mirvalievna, Alyavi Mufassal Nasirkhanovna and PhD Karshiyev Shavkat Gafurovich.

The educational activities of the department are carried out according to the programs and documentation approved by the CRPCMR. The department also carries out medical and consultative work at the bases together with cadets and clinical residents. The department specializes as a consultative center for diseases of the oral mucosa and periodontium throughout the Republic. The department treats caries and non-carious lesions of hard dental tissues, performs endodontic interventions and aesthetic restorations of teeth, removes teeth that cannot be restored, prosthetics and implantology for a beautiful smile of patients.

Along with this, research and educational and methodological work is actively carried out. To date, 8 candidate dissertations and 1 doctoral dissertation have been defended at the department. 2 independent applicants are conducting research work. The department has published more than 300 scientific articles, 4 patents and implemented more than 20 rationalization proposals. The department staff shares the results of their research and clinical situations at international and republican conferences.
